HARMONY POWER AWARDS
Positive Media Entertainment has joined forces with Sensei John P. Mirrione, founder of "Harmony By Karate". John Mirrione took over the Karate School in 1990. The school’s lineage traces back to its origin to the beginning of Karate in 1733.
"Harmony By Karate" is a Leadership School that develops inclusive and empathic Global Leaders. The School was in Partnership with the world famous Reebok Sport Club for 20 years. "Harmony By Karate" is rated in the top 7 martial arts schools in the US for children and adults.
It was through Sensei John's Harmony Power Foundation charity arm that "Harmony Power" was launched. It was on Oprah Radio and featured on Deepak Chopra’s One World internationally. It is the 1st mandated anti-bullying program in a major US city in Elizabeth NJ as announced on Disney’s ABC TV.
The foundation was officially formed in 2015 after several years of Mirrione sharing his personal story at schools and YMCA's of overcoming bullying through self-empowerment, believing in himself, and coming to the realization that anything is possible. The groundwork began in 2010 when Mirrione embarked on a 17-city tour with his own money and through sponsorship from Harmony by Karate, including stops in Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles.
The successful and inspiring message of Harmony Power has led it to become part of an anti-bullying assembly bill pertaining to the Week of Respect, observed the first week of October each year by school districts in recognition of the importance of social and emotional learning and character education.
This simple powerful system uses true positive reinforcement recognizing the good children do in their community in mass volume thus teaching self-love. Our existing system in schools mostly responds to negative behavior when a child misbehaves such as being suspended, expelled, or jail time. Awards are given mostly to those who are high academic achievers or high level athletes leaving the majority without any real self worth or accolades. Thus, from Harmony Power, comes Harmony Power Awards which are given to teachers and their students for being recognized for the good that they do to others and their community.
Sensei John handed out “Harmony Power Awards” to many deserving children at Abraham Lincoln PS #14 in Elizabeth, NJ.
Elmora Public School #12 in Elizabeth, New Jersey
Harmony Power Awards are essential to build self esteem and character thus preventing violence. These Harmony Power Awards are given in mass volume and noted in a child’s report card as permanent record. This prevents bullying and mass shootings by profoundly recognizing positive behavior in mass volume. “A child’s self-love prevents all forms of violence”.
Positive Media Entertainment was honored to be part of the launch of "Harmony Power" on September 4th, 2019 at Elmora Public School #12 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. It was such an historic day as it became a mandated program to 28,000 children in the city of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
“Harmony Power" delivers a powerful and inspirational message about the importance of kindness and goodness and how they both can have such a significant impact on our lives,” said Hugelmeyer, Elizabeth Public Schools Superintendent. “Character education is, and will continue to be, a point of emphasis in classroom instruction throughout our schools and Sensei John Mirrione’s program will undoubtedly be a wonderful asset to our learning community.”

The Story of "Whites and Blacks Working Together" by Bill Tinglin
On Thursday, April 4, 1968, at the age of 39, Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee.
In 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day into law as a federal holiday in the United States on the third Monday in January.
The holiday was first observed on January 20, 1986, and all the states observed it for the first time in January 2000. It honors the life and legacy of the Civil Rights Leader, and each year, the celebration takes place on the Monday closest to King's birthday, January 15.
President Reagan said "the holiday meant remembering King and the justice that he stood for. America is a more democratic nation, a more just nation, and a more peaceful nation because Martin Luther King Jr. became it's preeminent non-violent commander."
In President Reagan's television speech that was aired on cable and satellite to high school students across the country, Reagan said "King inspired all Americans, regardless of race. America is still not free of the racism Martin Luther King Jr. battled". Reagan then asked the nation's youth to strive for a land free of bigotry, intolerance, and discrimination.
In the 1950's and 1960's, Dr. King led a campaign of non-violent protests and civil disobedience in the struggle to end discrimination, including racial segregation, in the US. He pushed for social and economic improvements for African Americans while fighting for legal equality.
King was a critical force in bringing the anti-Black, racist struggles facing Black Americans to the communities, living rooms, and dinner tables of white Americans who had long had the privilege of overlooking and denying its existence. King did this while sacrificing his safety and his family's safety.
Race was at the heart of this struggle, but the impact was also economical. Due to injustice and inequality, Black people earned far less than white people, and King wanted to highlight that by leading a non-violent movement. King's strong beliefs in civil rights and non-violence made him a fierce opponent.
His ideas and work made him increasingly unpopular during his lifetime.
According to a Gallup poll, in 1966, 63% of Americans had an unfavorable view of King, and today, King is one of the most respected people in the country.
How is the US marking the holiday this year?
The King Center in Atlanta, led by his daughter Bernice King, launched its slate of Martin Luther King Jr. Day events on Thursday with youth and adult summits to educate the public on ways to transform unjust systems in the US.
In Boston, civic organizations unveiled a 22-foot (6.7-meter) bronze statue honoring King and his wife, Coretta Scott King.

On Friday, April 14th, 2023, the Lower Manhattan Historical Association held its Third Annual Ceremony honoring the 293rd anniversary of the Consecration of the first Synagogue in North America. The Mill Street Synagogue, located approximately on what is today the corner of South William Street and Mill Lane in Lower Manhattan, was critically important to the development of the Jewish Community in New York City and America. So, 26 South William Street was co-named "Mill Street Synagogue & Seixas Way."
It was from this synagogue that Gershom Mendes Seixas, the “patriot rabbi”, led the Jewish community in New York in support of the American Revolution and participated in George Washington‘s Inauguration.
That same day The Lower Manhattan Historical Association honored Mr. Bill Tinglin for his outstanding work advancing religious freedom and tolerance with the annual Gershom Mendes Seixas Religious Freedom Award. The Ceremony took place at the historic Mill Street Synagogue, the oldest Synagogue in America, which was consecrated in 1730 at the plaza underneath 85 Broad Street in front of 26 William Street, New York.
The ceremony included remarks by Mark Levine, Manhattan Borough President, remarks by Tammy Meltzer, Chair, Manhattan Community Board 1, Reverend Zachary Edinger Sexton Congregation Shearith Israel, Rabbi Nissi Eber, The Jewish Learning Experience, Jack Kliger, President & CEO Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust and James S. Kaplan, Co-Founder & Chair, Lower Manhattan Historical Association.
The program concluded with the reading of the Letter from George Washington to the Hebrew Congregation of Newport, RI (August 18, 1790), by Caroline Kaplan.
Positive Media Entertainment had the pleasure of working along side with Bill Tinglin and Legendary Basketball Player and current Goodwill Ambassador to Israel. Tal Talbot, came by PME's studio on November 21st, 2022 to create a PSA, to Combat Racism!
Talbot "Tal" Brody nicknamed Mr. Basketball, is an American-Israeli former professional basketball player and current goodwill ambassador of Israel. Brody was drafted #12 in the National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, but chose to pass up an NBA career, to instead play basketball in Israel. He played on national basketball teams of both the United States and Israel, and served in the armies of both countries.
The Holocaust In Transnistria: Giving Voice To A Silent History
January 27, 2023, was an important day in the United Nations. It was the international Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
In June of 1941, the Nazi’s gave the area to its ally Romania, which soon decided to use the region of Transnistria as the destination for Jews deported from the Bessarabia, Bukovina, and the northern Moldavia regions of Romania. Altogether, Romania deported approximately 150,000 Jews to Transnistria, who joined the estimated 185,000 Ukrainian Jews who had failed to escape before the Nazi invasion.
By the end of 1943, almost all of the 185,000 Ukrainian Jews had been murdered by Romanian and German soldiers. In addition, nearly 100,000 of the 150,000 Jews deported from Romania to Transnistria had been murdered or had died from exposure, starvation, or disease. The 250,000 to 280,000 Jews who were killed within the relatively small confines of Transnistria represent almost the same number as those killed in the more well-known death camp of Sobibor, and yet few people know the name of the area or the camp of Bogdanovka where 48,000 Jews were killed in only a few short weeks.
Bill Tinglin has been recently appointed as Chairman of the Center for Black Learning (C.B.L.), a pioneering non-profit educational institution based in New York. Accredited by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), their mission has significantly expanded to illuminate the African American experience, academic achievements, and their remarkable world-changing contributions.

Mirrione is the founder of "Harmony By Karate" and the chairman of the "Harmony Power Foundation". He has been training in karate for 43 years. He was bullied severely, and this led to him being a lifelong teacher who focuses on the healing aspects of the martial arts. He traveled to 17 cities to get a glimpse into the bullying crisis in the U.S. This deepened his understanding of the root causes of bullying. As a result, he founded the Harmony Power Foundation. Its mission is to “stand up to bullying and stand for human equality.” Sensei John Mirrione invites Sami Steigmann to his studio to discuss this and more on "Journey To Success".
